The Child Nutrition Program Specialist will be responsible for training and ensuring partner agencies from the education and government and non-profit sector to meet all regulations as set by the USDA and the Arizona Department of Education. Additionally, the Child Nutrition Program Specialist will be responsible for the ongoing compliance of our partner agencies by providing technical assistance of the regulations and compliances through the creations of various training tools.

The Child Nutrition Program Specialist will also focus on registering agencies to participate in other Child Nutrition Programs including Kids Café, Weekend Back-Packs and School Pantry models and other projects. This includes creating and implementing quality improvement tools and analyzing outcome data.

Responsibilities of the Child Nutrition Program Specialist include, but are not limited to:

  • Under limited direction, ensuring agency compliance according to USDA regulations.  Consulting with management on non-compliant agencies and creating a corrective action plan for immediate implementation.
  • Implementing program regulations at the agency partner level as stated by the USDA.
  • Establishing and maintaining personal and regular communication with partner agencies in the education, government and non-profit sector.
  • Driving to agency partners to conduct site trainings, visits and monitoring.
  • Managing site monitoring schedules.
  • Consulting with agencies on strategic compliance initiatives and working with Food and Nutrition Manager to develop an implementation plan to reduce any potential challenges.
  • Acting as a primary point of contact for production teams for issues related to meal numbers, routing, and site concerns.
  • Attending external meetings on as needed basis.
  • Recommending and implementing changes to processes. Balancing compliance needs with our customer service values.
  • Addressing compliance questions from the field. Researching questions regarding regulations and products.
  • Participating in quality improvement projects for the department including surveying, need assessments, internal audits and impact analysis.
  • Maintaining a positive and professional relationship with agencies and the community.
  • Utilizing internal tools including reports, records, and other documentation required by the Program or government agency.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of weekly metrics from partner agencies and responsible for accurate data entry.  
  • Participating in internal meetings and providing in-service trainings.
  • Creating forms, databases and other tools as appropriate. 
  • Training new department staff including volunteers on operational tasks.
  • This is a safety sensitive position.


Skills / Requirements

Minimum Qualifications sought:

  • College degree or combination of experience and education.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in social services, customer service, etc.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and database applications.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license and means of transportation.
  • Experience developing and filing compliance/policy forms.
  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Experience in creating training tools and administration forms.
  • Previous experience developing and filing policy forms.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
