Job Description

Located in Phoenix, Arizona, St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance is currently seeking a compassionate, team player for our Adult Development Specialist/Life Skills Trainer in our Community Kitchen Department. This position is responsible for providing direct support to a diverse group of adults participating in the culinary training program to ensure program completion. This positions works closely with other team members within the Community Kitchen.

-Key Responsibilities of the Adult Development Specialist/Life Skills Trainer include, but are not limited to: 

-Front line oversight of adult student resources, relations and records as well as life skills classroom coordination and instruction.

-Identifying adult student issues and assessing needs of resources including crises intervention.

-Maintaining a list of community resources, providing referral information to students as needed. These resources include dental services; housing; vision care; emergency shelters; domestic violence services; utility services; employment advisors.

-Networking with community groups/networks to explore resources available.

-Providing coaching and counseling to adult students on matters such as personal, social, or behavioral issues affecting their performance. Assisting in creation of development plan as needed.

-Facilitating conversations with adult students and program staff related to student performance and behavior, ensuring accurate documentation of conversations, etc. Observing student disciplinary instruction to assist in evaluating student performance and behavior, ensuring student disciplinary and grievance process is followed, conducting follow-up conversations to discuss updates.

-Serving as liaison to students’ case managers, parole officers, etc.

-Assisting in the development and enforcement of program policies and procedures, ensuring communication to current adult students.

-Developing and creating appropriate life skills curriculum as applies to a diverse learning population.

-Facilitating life skills training sessions, creating training applicable to adult learners.

-Coordinating Life Skills classes, morning meetings, and special student activities, to include preparation of materials, facilitating student assignments, maintaining classroom calendars, and tracking student assignments.

-Collaborating with instructors and program management in the development and evaluation of educational programming.

-Preparing reports, correspondence and student success stories.

-Participating in creating department short and long range plans for students.

Skills / Requirements

Qualifications and Experience sought: 

-Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, social/behavioral sciences or equivalent and/or a minimum of 3 years’ experience in social services or student affairs work or related specialty.

-Proficient in computer skills to include all Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

-Highly organized and detail-oriented.

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

-A strong sense of community involvement and the desire to make a difference in the lives of others is essential.

-Previous experience working with a diverse adult population.

-A valid AZ Driver’s license is required.

-General knowledge of commercial kitchen operations or food service helpful.
