The Neighbor Services and Volunteer Associate supports daily operations at the Chinle Neighborhood Food Center by providing excellent customer service to visitors, managing neighbor intake and data entry, and maintaining a welcoming environment. This role also coordinates volunteer activities, including recruitment, scheduling, training, and engagement, while handling basic administrative duties and reporting to support overall program success.
Essential Functions:
Neighbor Services and Support
- Provides excellent customer service by greeting Food Bank visitors/callers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Performs neighbor intake using a computer and the online program Link2Feed
- Performs accurate data entry of documents including reports and receipting for all programs.
- Handles call transfers, messages, directions, and referral phone numbers.
- Answer questions about Hunger Relief Services offered at the food bank.
- Maintains all work areas in a clean and sanitary condition, always keeping the lobby and reception area clean and orderly.
- Assists with any other areas of the Chinle Neighborhood Food Center as assigned.
Volunteer Coordination and Support
- Collaborate with the Chinle Neighborhood Food Center Supervisor to support staff and volunteers.
- Assess site-specific volunteer needs, ensure appropriate assignments, and promote engaging experience to maximize retention.
- Schedule and onboard volunteers, provide training, and supervise their activities
- Address and mediate concerns between volunteers or between volunteers and staff.
- Develop partnerships with local agencies to secure a steady flow of corporate and programmatic volunteers (e.g., AARP).
- Facilitate orientations, tours, and volunteer recognition programs.
Administrative and Reporting Duties
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly reports as necessary.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records using SMFBA’s Volunteer Hub software.
- Prepare monthly reports on activities, initiatives, and outcomes on both Volunteer Strategies and Neighbor Services.
- Handle communications, including email and phone confirmations with volunteer groups.
- Capture volunteer photos for social media and coordinate with the Community Relations team.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent, such as a GED.
- One to three years of work experience in a related field or role
- Experience speaking to groups of 10-20+ people
- Ability to follow detailed instructions for tasks required of the associate
- Strong communication (oral and written) skills
- PC skills including working knowledge of the Microsoft environment and the ability to access, manipulate, organize, and relay information in a meaningful way.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous administrative or customer service experience preferred
- Fluent in Navajo
